Burlington, Mass. - November 15, 2006 - Kalido, the active information management company, congratulates its customer Nationwide, one of the largest diversified insurance and financial services organizations in the world, for being recognized as a Top 10 project in this year's InfoWorld's 2006 InfoWorld 100 Award. Named an InfoWorld 100 Finalist for its centralized financial master data management (MDM) initiative, Nationwide was honored for making the best use of multiple technologies, including Kalido's Active Information Management software, in "innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals."
In 2004, Nationwide embarked on a corporate-wide project - dubbed "FOCUS" - designed to consolidate disparate data under one platform and thereby increase agility and corporate insight, while decreasing IT costs and improving regulatory compliance. Critical to this initiative was the development of a data governance organization and implementation of a Kalido-based master data management solution.
"The FOCUS program represented a new way of thinking for Nationwide, moving us to a centralized, service-on-demand model," said Lance Dacre, director of data governance at Nationwide. "Today, the MDM solution is used consistently by the finance and accounting community and has centralized our financial master data management. The result is that our business managers and executives have the accurate, consistent information they need to make more informed business decisions on a daily basis."
The InfoWorld 100 Awards celebrate real-world IT projects that use technology in smart, innovative, creative ways to meet business and technical objectives. InfoWorld features Nationwide in the November 13th issue highlighting the top 10 of this year's elite group of InfoWorld 100 recipients. According to the article, Nationwide resolved "to create a unified view of company financials, integrating data from 240 source systems into a central, 'golden copy' repository from which central analysis and reporting could be conducted." InfoWorld also featured Nationwide's MDM project in the October 23rd issue, "Reopening the Data Mart."
"Through close collaboration between our business and IT teams, we were able to create an effective process and infrastructure for new data governance," said David Day, consultant, IT application development, at Nationwide. "In addition, by transforming the many definitions scattered throughout Nationwide into a standard set of master data, we are now able to gain a greater level of consistency and traceability in financial reports."
"Nationwide's team is at the forefront of a new trend - treating information as a key corporate asset," said Bill Hewitt, president and CEO of Kalido. "Most companies face the difficult mission of providing critical information in the context of their business. This task is made seemingly impossible when combined with the need to meet strict corporate governance policies that require careful tracking of both past and current states. Nationwide has broken that barrier by delivering a successful, enterprise-wide project that has a tangible impact on the business."
