Kalido® Business Information Modeler™


The Kalido® Business Information Modeler™ is a tool for graphically creating, sharing, and maintaining business information models.

At the heart of the Modeler application is a user interface for drawing, structuring, and defining the attributes of types of business entities. The application packages these information objects into models that can be shared and iteratively developed by data and application architects. The ability to print and export the model information to popular applications also improves communication between architects and business users.

In addition to acting as a modeling and collaboration tool, the Modeler reads, builds, and validates models that conform to the Kalido architecture. Through Kalido’s Model Exchange Service™ (MXS), models can be extracted from and deployed into the Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse™.

The Kalido Business Information Modeler is actually two applications that are installed independently:

  • Modeler application


    The Modeler consists of the user interface, business logic, serialization components and export adapters. Application users may design, save, and open information models independently of other Kalido products.

    The Modeler user interface employs the Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and the Microsoft .NET 3.5 framework. The Business Information Modeler Installation Guide includes instructions for obtaining and installing .NET.

  • Model Exchange Service (MXS)


    The MXS is an adapter between the Modeler and Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse 8.4. This component is required to extract and deploy Dynamic Information Warehouse models with the Modeler application.

Model exchange can occur throughout the information management life cycle. For example, a model can be deployed to a Dynamic Information Warehouse instance, extracted from the warehouse and refined in the Modeler, then redeployed.

NOTE: Kalido Business Information Modeler requires the following software:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. If this is not present on the host system, the installer will install it.
    •  MXS will require additional resources on the application server

     

Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse minimum requirement

Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse 8.4 MR 1 with IIS 5.1, 6.0 or above.

NOTE: The Model Exchange is hosted by Microsoft Internet Information Services, IIS 5.1, 6.0 or above, as a Web service application. The MXS must be installed on a Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse Application Server. The following software must be installed on this server:

  • Kalido Dynamic Information Warehouse 8.4 MR1 or above
  • IIS 5.1, 6.0 or above
